Archie: So, from the choices of missions, I decide to pick this one.

Archie: An enemy Ace is challenging one of ours for a singular one-on-one duel, and I decide to respond for our Corp's honor.
Skald: Way to go, Archie! Show him the feline honor.
Interitus: Aren't you guys human now?
Kagura: LET'S JUST GANG UP ON HIM AND KILL HIM.
Archie: Shush, you.
Interitus: And Major Kagura, why do sound like that?
Kagura: LIKE WHAT?
Interitus: sorrypleasedon'tyell.
Archie: Anyway, let's see who am I facing now...

Archie: Holy hell, it's Max Immelman himself! He practically invented being a fighter ace! Immelman you magnificent bastard, I read your book!
Kagura: MINCING SOMETHING THERE.
Theme song starts!
Archie: Anyway, the point still stand. I have to duel with my idol already? I know I'm outclassed from all side here. My only chance is...

My only chance to use the environment against him. I see clouds and flak cover on the distance. I'll see if I can bait him to fight over there.

But before I can reach my preferred battleground, Immelman has closed in and opened fire, hitting me straight on the side. A clean hit, but nothing critical, thankfully.
Luckily I manage to fly past him, and now I have some respite because we'll need some time to turn our plane around and...

Archie: Holy hell, did you just see that? He just did his namesake Immelman Turn and he's straight at my tail again!
I can't do something as fancy as that... yet, so for now I'm doing a relatively simpler half loop above the flak cover so I can head toward him as well.
s
Archie: Immelman is more reckless than I thought! Seeing that I'm in a vulnerable upside-down position before I can roll back, he decides to press on ignoring the flak cover. His plane got quite damaged by that.

Archie: As I roll to level my flight , using my advantage in weapon firing arc I throw some potshots at him. It's mostly luck, but I manage to damage his engine.

Archie:We did some aerial dance near the base (I didn't manage to bait him to fly above the flak cover again), and he manages to land some really clean shot at my fighter.

Archie: I'm trying to get some range so I can turn my machine gun toward him again now, but holy hell. I wish you could see the magnificent display of flight he exhibits today. Before I knew it he's already on my tail again!

Archie: It takes me awhile before I realize that the last exchange left my wing damaged, so I can't do a loop. So I have to do the bread-and-butter turning and banking if I want to put my nose on him. This is what dogfight is all about.

Archie: But using his advantage in tighter turning, Immelman manages to out-turn me and he lands some clean shots again! This is not looking good...

Archie: I know he's doing that infamous immelman turn again behind my back, so I head straight to the clouds.

He can't see me now, so he decides to do the same.

This can go either way now. We're both waiting for chance. It all depends on who can stay in cloud cover longer.

Archie: Aand he's out of cloud cover first.

Archie: And I win! I managed to win in a dogfight against The Eagle of Lille himself! I can't believe this is happening.
Skald: That was a brilliant duel, my friend.
Archie: To be fair, I must dedicate this victory to two things. One is that I managed to make him fight in the location of my choosing, where I have all the advantage. And second is, this is still really early at the war, so we're both limited by the plane we're using.
Kagura: DON'T SELL YOURSELF SHORT, ARCHIBALD. THAT'S A BRILLIANT DISPLAY OF TACTIC AND PILOTING SKILLS. THOUGH I STILL CAN'T SEE WHY WE DON'T JUST GANG UP ON HIM TOGETHER...
Archie: Either way, this victory adds to our point in this offensive.

Archie: And I got promoted to a lieutenant.

Archie: I managed to learn some things from my duel with Max Immelman (the slip/skid maneuver).

Sadly my plane is severely damaged, and it will take a while before I can take flight again.

But on the bright side, we got a new plane delivered!
